Health Minister meets GAVI's delegation

SANAA, Feb. 9 (Saba) - Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Taha al-Mutwakkil on Sunday met in Sanaa with the the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI)'s delegation, headed by the regional official.

The meeting dealt with aspects related to strengthening the partnership between the Health Ministry and GAVI.

At the meeting, Dr. al-Mutwakkil noted to the importance of the delegation's visit to see closely the health situation in Yemen, expressing his hope for expanding the Alliance's support to include medicines and enhancing the health system in Yemen.

The Health Minister reviewed the health situation in Yemen, especially what children are exposed to as a result of the continued aggression and siege.

Dr. al-Mutwakkil said that more than 3,000 children were killed as a result of the direct bombing of the aggression coalition and 3,000 others wounded and disabled, while 150,000 children died during 2019 because of diseases and epidemics.

He confirmed that the ministry supports routine immunization and vaccination, referring to the difficulties facing the ministry in this field.

For her part, GAVI's regional official confirmed the Alliance's readiness to support the ministry's efforts and mobilize resources to strengthen the health system and routine vaccine.
